The colour purple combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. It is associated with royalty. As well as symbolising power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.
Personally I’ve never been that bothered by the colour purple for some reason but for this project whether we liked it or not it didn’t matter we didn’t have a choice. This was a sustainable, recycling project using second-hand garments to create new products.
The skirt is made from strips of polo shirts typically made from polyester which have been sewn together using over-locking on the outside which can make the piece more attractive. The striped pattern is balanced by the jumper which is mainly black complimenting the stitching on the the skirt. The shape of the jumper is exaggerated producing a more dramatic outcome making the piece more interesting. The Light purple colour evokes romantic and nostalgic feelings contrasting with the Dark purple which evokes gloom and sad feelings creating a balance within the outfit.
This recycled outfit will be a part of an exhibition in coventry along with other sustainable outcomes next week.
